My Westie is on 7 units of Vetsulin for diabetes. Can I also give her Dia-IonX or is this a substitute for insulin. Can she take both?

Dear Helen,

You cannot stop giving insulin at this time because the body still needs it. However, you may give Dia-IonX along with the insulin. It is important to closely monitor blood glucose levels and know how to adjust the dosage of the insulin if the requirement for insulin goes down. You should talk to your veterinarian about this. You might also get some digestive enzymes and probiotics for your dog. Ask if your veterinarian carries any of these.

Together these will help the body turn food into energy. Please let us know how you do and if we can answer any more questions for you.

Best wishes,
Dr. Char
