Health Questions & Answers

I have a 3 year old bullmastiff, he was given to me a few months ago, who breaks out with an infection. It is usually on his ankle, buttox, and neck. The infection got so bad when i first got him that it was literally dripping infection. I took him to the vet and he didnt test it, just said it was a skin infection and that he had scars where he previously had it. He gave us a general antibiotic, which cleared it up, however it keeps returning, and itches him extremely bad. Is there anything I can do or not do that can make this easier to handle and somewhat keep it under control? Is this common in bullmastiffs, and just allergies? Thank you, Sabrina

Dear Sabrina,

You might want to look at two of our products, Derma-IonX and Defendex shampoo, to help heal the skin. Derma-IonX, which is an oral homeopathic product, stimulates the enzyme systems in the body, which reduces itching and inflammation, promotes healing of the skin, and helps with assimilation of nutritional components in diet and supplements. The supplements I use along with it include digestive enzymes, probiotics, MSM, vitamin C, and fish oil. Together with Derma-IonX, it produces a synergistic effect for a faster response. It can also be used topically if there are troublesome spots on the skin. I would also suggest that you give your dog only filtered water for drinking and bathing if your water contains chlorine or fluoride. For the dietary modifications, you might want to try a grain free diet for a while. Sometimes allergies can create dampness in the body, which can allow bad bacteria in the body to thrive and create infection. The goal of what I have suggested is to change the terrain of the body, which helps reduce the bacteria, reduce possible allergens, and decrease the allergic response.

Defendex shampoo, which was designed to fight against fleas and mites, also washes away debris and soothes the skin. Using both products is a simple and effective way of helping resolve a difficult condition. Please feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions.

Best wishes,
Dr. Char
