Have 3 year old Labradoodle with "waxy buildup" in his coat despite bathing. The waxy buildup drys out and his hair comes out. He grows hair but can't keep it. He does not have sores on his skin. He is fed high quality single ingredient food and is given vitamins and supplement by holistic vet. Have you seen this condition in other dogs? Do you have treatment/shampoo suggestions?

Dear Tina,

DERMA-IONX is helpful for many skin conditions. It is an oral homeopathic product which stimulates the enzyme systems in the body that aids the skin and helps with assimilation of nutritional components in diet and supplements. I would give a half dose of DERMA-IONX on the breakfast and supper food. After there are signs of improvement you can give a whole dose once a day. I would also give Probiotics to aid the immune system. OMEGA 3,6,9 is also helpful. What do you feed your dog?

I would suggest that you give only filtered water for drinking and bathing if your water contains chlorine or fluoride. If you need to bathe, DEFENDEX shampoo is soothing. I like to use it because it is nontoxic and the essential oils in it are very effective .

Please keep us updated so we can help guide you along the way.

Best regards,
