My 27 month old Pembroke has been diagnosed (x-rays) with osteophytes in both shoulders for the most part in the stress points of the joint. Needless to say he is limping. He is currently on Arthro-IonX and Promaxol about a month now with a crisis dose for about a week. I haven't really noticed much although he seems a little better in the mornings than at night. He is also on a liquid that I mix of cod liver oil, flax seed oil, olive oil, and wheat germ oil. The ortho surgeon consulted by our vet specifically advised against surgery (wasn't planning that anyway). She did suggest rehab - done that before for a problem on the right side last year - for strengthening the muscles in the shoulders. I have read about vitamin therapy in humans that might help. What are your thoughts on this? Which ones and how to get them into him? By the way, he is too squirmy for acupuncture!

Dear Robin,

For bone spurs I would use ARTHRO-IONX and DIA-IONX. Give them at different times of the day. You might want to split the doses in half so you can give it more frequently. For shoulder nutrition I give a product by Standard Process called Ligaplex 2. To reduce inflammation I would also use PROBIOTICS along with your oils. You should not rule out acupuuncture if they can treat the points with a laser and not use needles. Please keep us updated on your progress.
