What supplements and flavor of Primal dog food do you give? Do you give medications, treats, or flea products?

This is what my holistic vet prescribed to My pom He is on chicken freeze dried primal, 1 tsp cod liver oil, 2 tab colostrum chewables, 1 tab gastro-fiber 1 tab betaine hydrochloride 1 tab canine whole body support, 1 tab wild yam complex, 1 tab spectrum plus mag, 1 tab hypothalamus Pmg, 1 tab neuroplex all crushed up and added to his food daily. He is not on any medications but I give him topical revolution once a month during flea season. I add nine different supplements to his food daily and he continues to lose fur. This has been going on for a year.

RESPONSE: I would use the homeopathic DERMA-IONX giving a half dose on the food twice daily on the breakfast and supper food. It is good that you are feeding a high quality food but I would feed a grain free food avoiding chicken. I would choose more cooling foods according to Chinese food therapy. Cooling proteins are fish and turkey. Beef is neutral. Chicken and lamb are warming and should be used less frequently. We do not want to increase the heat and inflammation in the skin. If there is a food allergy to a protein do not use it even though it might have the correct thermal property. If you switch to a different Primal flavor do so gradually over a week or so, monitoring any stool changes. If stool quality changes go back to the prior ratio. I would also give PROBIOTCS to improve digestion and reduce inflammation in the body.

Has there been a stool check done this year checking for parasites? Parasites can make skin skin conditions worse.

You might want to stop Revolution for a while and try DEFENDEX Red Cedar Oil Spray during flea season. Do you bathe your dog? What kind of shampoo do you use?

I will follow your suggestions on switching foods to fish or turkey (grain free), adding probiotics, derma-ionx and defendex red cedar oil instead of revolution. My pom is due for a stool check I will also call our vet and have that scheduled. I bathe my pom with dermagic peppermint and tea tree oil shampoo and conditioner. I also do a final rinse of water and vinegar.

RESPONSE: It sounds like a good plan. Please update us when you can.
