I have a St. Bernard that is 6 yrs old. His back right hip has some arthritis and I read about your Arthro-IonX medicine and it sounded perfect for him. I also have a friend that uses this for her St Bernard and it works great. My S.t Bernard, Griswald, started on this medicine on Saturday morning, I gave him 2 tsp and then again at night gave him 2 tsp. He began to experience diarrhea. I decided on sunday to give him only 1 dose (2 tsp) and then again on monday only 1 dose (2tsp)...he is still experiencing diarrhea and is waking me up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. How long will this last? Is there anything I can do to help with this? Thank you

Dear Heather,

I would take a more holistic approach. We can cover this in a few emails. I would put him back on a low dose of Tramadol and wean him off again when things are more stable. I would consider a food change. The choice would be dependent upon his internal condition. Does he tend to feel more warm and look for cool places to stay in or is he cool and want to lay in the sun or by the fireplace? The supplements I recommend are probiotics and Omega 3,6,9. to improve digestion and reduce inflammation. (Available from Vetionx.) MSM and vitamin C would be good, too. You should be available to find these at a health food store. As for treats the ones you are giving are not the best choices. If you have the time you could cut some turkey hotdogs into nickel sized slices and toast them in the oven. You can store them in the refrigerator and use them as treats as needed. Most dogs love them.

I will look for your response.

Best wishes,
