Health Questions & Answers

Hi, I am from Australia and I have a 10 year old Silky Terrier. I have ordered Arthro-IonX. She has very bad arthritis in both back legs, and both cruciates cannot be repaired now. Is there anything else I can do for her? She has trouble getting up from lying down and her legs splay out each side because we have wooden floors. She has gone down hill very much over the last two weeks. Also, she has a ruptured anal gland and had an abscess and is on antibiotics for that. Can you please offer me any advice?
Thank you very much.

Dear Carol,

To help the knees, ask if it might be possible to get knee braces. I have recommended it for large dogs before, but never for a small one so I don't know if it would be easy to find. I would also lay down runners to help her grip the floor where she usually walks.

I would also transition her onto a diet without grains. If you could find a commercially prepared raw food diet that is often helpful. Her digestion is most likely not as good as it used to be. The other things that are helpful are a good quality fish oil supplement, digestive enzymes if they eat cooked food, and probiotics. The probiotics are especially important if they have taken antibiotics.

Arthro-IonX can offer some pain relief and stimulate healing and help with utilization of the good nutrients you are giving. Also, if you can help stabilize the knee it will minimize the rubbing and really reduce the pain.

I hope you will be able to implement some of these suggestions and please let us know how you progress.
