Hi Dr. Wilson,

Please let me know if this has been answered - I didn't see it in the archives.

Our 50 pound Keeshond (stray, we think he's 10-12 years old) has arthritis in his elbows and some stiffness in his back legs. He is taking aspirin 2x/day and also has hypothyroid (.8 mg 2x/day). Can he take VETiONX products?

And if so, how do I know when to wean him off the aspirin?

Thank you,

Melody B.

Dear Melody,

You can safely use Arthro-IonX concurrently with other medications. Because it is homeopathic in nature you do not get negative interactions. As you begin to see positive changes, decrease the amount of aspirin that you are giving. Arthro-IonX offers quick relief but it takes time for the joints to repair so you will need to give it for a longer period of time. That is better than giving NSAIDs long-term which only offer some pain relief but continues to allow joints to deteriorate and can have other negative side effects. You can use Arthro-IonX without worrying about stomach irritation or liver damage for as long as you like while rebuilding the joints.

Because your dog is getting older I would also encourage you to use digestive enzymes with meals, probiotics, and a high quality fish oil. It all works together synergistically.

Best wishes,
Dr. Char
