Our 50 lb dog is scheduled for double TPLO and has elevated liver ALT 219. After surgery no NSAIDS for pain relief only Tramadol. Will Promaxol be enough? I call every vet in the San Diego area that is holistic from the AHVMA.org site and none of them knew about Promaxol. I don't know that my vet would "go" for it's use so if the product is recommended by you in this situation how can I convince him to try it? I really don't want to damage her liver with pain meds. Thanks

Dear Suja,

I would use PROMAXOL after the surgery. It helps to decrease pain, inflammation, and stimulate healing. Initially I would give a half dose with breakfast and again at supper. You can use up to four half doses spread out throughout the day if it necessary. After improvement is seen you can decrease to a whole dose once daily. In addition I find it helpful to follow a holistic approach by giving nutritional supplements to accompany the homeopathic. I would also use PROBIOTICS and OMEGA 3,6,9 to reduce inflammation and strengthen the body. You may use PROMAXOL with other medications such as Tramadol if necessary. Hopefully you would not need to or at least be able to use less of the drugs that have side effects. If you mentioned some of the ingredients in PROMAXOL to the other holistic veterinarians they would probably be familiar with them. Another homeopathic product Traumeel is more widely known but it is no longer available in the United States.

Have you talked to a veterinary acupuncturist? It could be helpful as well.

Best regards,
