Health Questions & Answers

I think there are few things worse than watching a pet suffer. It can be so wrenching - after all, they can't tell us what's wrong! It's important that we help our pets lead a healthy lifestyle so they can avoid major health problems...

...but obviously, that's easier said than done. Diet and exercise are of course important, but that's pretty general. Does anyone have any specific tips on how to help your cat or dog avoid getting diabetes?

I know one of the major causes of diabetes in cats and dogs is obesity. If you keep your pet at a healthy weight, they are less likely to contract type 2 diabetes. Another major cause is age. As much as we'd all love for our pets to live forever, we can't really control our pets from aging. We just have to make sure they've lived a healthy life. If they end up getting diabetes because of their age, we can help by to managing their symptoms.
