My vet gave me Tramadol for my 22 year old cat because he feels the cat may be in pain at times. Although he exhibits no signs of pain, I tried it. Even cutting the dose in half ( to 12.5mg) he had a bad reaction: wired for 14 hours. Enter Arthro-IonX: I showed my vet the list of ingredients and he questioned SALICYLICUM ACIDUM. Is it Aspirin or the same class of drug? If so, I would think it unsafe for cats.

Dear Sarah,

It is safe because it is homeopathic aspirin not regular aspirin. The reason why homeopathy is safe is because it is usually diluted and succussed so many times it does not contain any molecules of the original substance. In homeopathy a 10X potency is one in which the tincture has been diluted 1 to 9 parts, and then one part of that mixture is diluted again 1 to 9, and so on until this is done 10 times. The energy signature of the original substance is carried in the liquid but very few molecules of the original substance remains in the liquid and by the time you get to a 24X dilution there are no more molecules of the tincture left, just the energy instruction. With each dilution the activity becomes more focused somewhat like a laser compared to a flashlight. 10X,20X,30X are considered low to moderate potencies. The different potencies act slightly differently in the body so it is common for preparations to contain several. The remedies were chosen based upon their ability to modify the symptoms and stimulate internal modifications that lead to healing. Having it in homeopathic form makes it safer than most prescription drugs that need to be under the supervision of a doctor. Though homeopathy isn't used as much in the United States, over half of veterinarians in Europe use homeopathy alongside conventional therapy. It can offer some help in cases where more options are needed. For more information about the individual ingredients and the history of homeopathy, the website www.nationalcenterforhomeopathy.org is a great educational tool.

The product is registered with the FDA and meets the United States Pharmacopeia standards. For a better understanding of this you may go to www.usp.org/audiences/consumers/

I hope you will find the above sites satisfying and if you have any further questions please contact us again.

Best wishes,

Dr. Char
