Health Questions & Answers

Hi Dr I have a13 yr old male shar-pei. I have kept up with most of the Shar-pei problems. He is in overall good health. He has good blood work returns. The only problem I or the vet could never solve is an apparent anxiety issue, where for no reason from a comfortable rest or sleep he would just jump out of his skin, start pacing the house, start to pant and be under foot. The only thing the vet gave me was a 5mg Valium which I would cut in half and give him. He calms down in about fifteen minutes. One other problem is his skin. He has hot spots that turn red and sometimes bloody, but then heal and become dry and coarse to the touch. I have tried many different products for his skin and coat. There has been progress at times, then it starts all over again. Can your products help him.

Dear Peter,

You might want to look at some of our products to help heal the skin. Derma-IonX which is an oral homeopathic product stimulates the enzyme systems in the body which reduces itching and inflammation , promotes healing of the skin and helps with assimilation of nutritional components in diet and supplements. The supplements I use along with it include Canine probiotics, vitamin C, MSM, and Omega 3,6,9. Together with Derma-IonX it produces a synergistic effect for a faster response. I would also suggest that you give your dog only filtered water for drinking and bathing if your water contains chlorine or fluoride. For the dietary modifications you might want to try a grain free diet for a while. Fish or turkey might be good protein sources if not allergic to these. In Chinese food therapy they are considered to be cooling which is what hot skin needs.

Defendex shampoo which is nontoxic washes away debris and soothes the skin. Using these products is a simple and effective way of helping resolve a difficult condition.

Please feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions.

Best wishes,

Dr. Char
