Health Questions & Answers

I have a chocolate lab that showed no problem with her skin until about age 2 1/2. She scratches, licks her feet and legs, and vigorously chews her toenails. I take her to the vet after she develops a rash and subsequent skin infection and/or ear infection. I am told it is allergies and she gets a course of prednisone and an antibiotic. She is better as long as she takes the prednisone and as soon as she is done, the same problem begins again until after a few months it is back to the vet to repeat the same routine. I am minus $100-150 with each visit and the problem is not solved. I have put her on a 5-ingredient dog food but it does nothing for the problem. I do not know what to do. Her hair is thinning on her belly and legs. Her other coat is dry and has dander. I was giving her oil tablets one per day. Why should I try the Derma-IonX and not the enzyme program which is also online? They say the problem is yeast. Is this true? The Derma-IonX is less expensive. I don't know what to do. I can't afford to keep taking her to the vet or invest in promises that do not work. Thank you.

Dear Diane,

You might want to look at some of our products to help heal the skin. Derma-IonX which is an oral homeopathic product stimulates the enzyme systems in the body which reduces itching and inflammation , promotes healing of the skin and helps with assimilation of nutritional components in diet and supplements. The supplements I use along with it include Canine probiotics, vitamin C, MSM, and Omega 3,6,9. Together with Derma-IonX it produces a synergistic effect for a faster response. I would also suggest that you give your dog only filtered water for drinking and bathing if your water contains chlorine or fluoride. For the dietary modifications you might want to try a grain free diet for a while. Since there is dandruff I would select a cooling protein source such as fish or turkey if not allergic to it.

Defendex shampoo which is nontoxic washes away debris and soothes the skin. Using these products is a simple and effective way of helping resolve a difficult condition especially if you are dealing with a chronic yeast problem.

Please feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions.

Best wishes,

Dr. Char
