Health Questions & Answers

My DSH male cat, Spanky, will turn 18 tomorrow. He currently has the onset of Kidney Disease, which is being managed by giving H20-IonX once per day, as well as an herbal Kidney Support formula from Native Remedies. He also gets 1/4 of Famotidine with the Kidney Support (both 1x per day). I am starting to notice some symptoms of EPI - I am familiar with this as his brother had this after repeated cases of pancreatitis a few years back. Spanky does not mind any of the Vetionx products or the herbal remedy, however I cannot get any type of digestive enzyme in his food to help with the nutritional absorption. Do you have or recommend a product that will help? I appreciate your response and feed back. Sincerely, Dianne

Dear Dianne,

ProZyme powder to aid digestion is usually well tolerated by cats. You might also want to look at Dia-IonX for kidney support. It contains homeopathic remedies to support the liver and kidneys since most diabetics have weakness in these areas. If you can minimize vomiting then you could ask your veterinarian about lowering the Famotidine dosage which blocks stomach acid. Better digestion will lessen the workload on the liver and kidneys. If you want to use both H2O-IonX and Dia-IonX, I would give 10 drops of H2O-IonX with breakfast and 10 drops of Dia-IonX with supper.

Please let us know how you progress.

Best regards,

Dr. Char
