My terrier mix dog, 12 lbs, 6 years old, recently started itching. She is a house dog, anal gland is clear, no signs of rash, dry skin, hair loss, cracking skin, redness, no apparent visual skin problems. I have tried different shampoos, but she continues licking around the buttocks not the anus or female organ. She does eat table food, just lean meats. This has just recently started in the last 6 weeks. Thanks Jim

Dear James,

You might want to look at some of our products to help heal the skin. Derma-IonX which is an oral homeopathic product stimulates the enzyme systems in the body which reduces itching and inflammation, promotes healing of the skin and helps with assimilation of nutritional components in diet and supplements. The supplements I use along with it Canine Probiotics, vitamin C, MSM, and Omega 3,6,9. (The first and last are available thru Vetionx. Together with Derma-IonX it produces a synergistic effect for a faster response. I would also suggest that you give your dog only filtered water for drinking and bathing if your water contains chlorine or fluoride. For the dietary modifications you might want to try a grain free diet for a while.

You might also want to look at our shampoo called Defendex shampoo which is nontoxic, washes away debris and soothes the skin. It does not contain sodium lauryl sulfate as the do the majority of shampoos.

Please feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions.

Best regards,

Dr. Char
