Health Questions & Answers

When I got my 2 month old pitbull terrier, he developed demodectic mange.  It took 2 months to clear, then about a month later, he was covered in hives.  I  gave him Benadryl, washed all his bedding, and cleaned-up the yard.  My vet gave him antibiotics, cortisone and after months the final antibiotics worked.  But a few weeks later, I noticed what appeared to be a round bloody scrape on his head, I used hydrogenperoxide and antibiotic cream, but strangely, he developed these small bumps that turned into scabs then hair fell out where bumps had developed all the way down his neck and side of face. again, another round of cephalexin and cortisone. He cannot tolerate anymore antibiotics or cortisone and I don't know what to do to control these skin problems, he gets salmon/rice food very good, and a few dog treats, so he has the best diet for allergy-related dogs.  He is now one years old, and still recovering from those weird bumps that appeared after the lesion on skin.   My vet just says its a secondary infection, I say my vet doesn't know what he is doing. Please help.

Dear Lisa,

You might want to look at two of our products, Derma-IonX and Defendex shampoo to help heal the skin. Derma-IonXX which is an oral homeopathic product stimulates the enzyme systems in the body which reduces itching and inflammation, promotes healing of the skin and helps with assimilation of nutritional components in diet and supplements. The supplements I use along with it include Canine probiotics, vitamin C, MSM, and Omega 3,6,9. Together with Derma-IonX it produces a synergistic effect for a faster response. I would also suggest that you give your dog only filtered water for drinking and bathing if your water contains chlorine or fluoride. For the dietary modifications you might want to read the label of the treats to make sure there are no artificial ingredients or colors.

Defendex shampoo which is nontoxic washes away debris and soothes the skin. Using both products is a simple and effective way of helping resolve a difficult condition.

Please feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions.

Best wishes,

Dr. Char
