I recently bought 3 bottles of Defendex shampoo for my 7 month old lab/shiba inu mix. I gave her a bath last night, and prior to that, I bathed her about 3 weeks ago. I also put K9 Advantix on her once a month on about the 1st. She's had a bald spot on her head now that hasn't gotten better - took her to our vet and got an ointment for it about a week ago, but she said bathing her would be fine. My question to you is, I bathed her last night with the Defendex shampoo for the first time and she started itching like crazy after her bath. She was also itching this morning. Did the shampoo irritate her skin? Did the K9 Advantix wash off? And if so, should we apply some more Advantix? What's the best remedy for her? -Chris-

Dear Chris,

I would suggest you rinse your dog again. It is possible that you did not get all of the shampoo out of the coat because the shampoo is very concentrated. Even though I think I have rinsed well enough it is often sudsy when I use the smooth side of the shedding blade to squeeze the excess water off the coat. So then I rinse again. When I use Defendex I dilute a small amount in another empty shampoo bottle and apply it to the wet coat and lather. If you have chlorine or fluoride in your water I would add a filter on the water line so that the water is better. Some dogs do not react well to those chemicals.

I would not reapply K9 Advantix before it is due. Do you have fleas in your house or where your dogs spend time?

Best regards,
