I have a 3 year old mixed female.  She is prone to weight gain, and i have been using Wellness Super Weight Dry Food to control it.  She has recently developed Schnazuer Krud fromt he tail up to midback with little bumps.  She is on an antibiotic, and a special shampoo once a week.  She was diagnosed 4/5/13.  I have a feeling it is because of the food.  At times I felt chicken bothered her, but my vet said don't change teh food as of now.  He wants to clear up the skin, however I feel it is because of the food.  My question is since she is prone to weight gain, should I go to a simple Wellness food with limited ingredients.  It has more fat andprotein in it.  She does not do well with protein as one time I started her on Wellness Core Reduced Fat with Lamb, but she started having anal probelms.  What do you advise?  I was told a natural balance dog food, just vegetarian is good for dogs with allergies.  She is getting a touch better but has a rash still and is on Pyogen Shampoo, and Cefodoxime.  Can you advise me on what food and what I can do for her?  She cannot afford to gain weight, she is a mix of beagle, terrier, and schnauzer.  Thanks.

Dear Jo Ann,

I would not worry about feeding a weight reducing formula. I prefer to choose a food that fits the dog well and you can add some green beans to make it a little lighter if the dog begins to gain weight. If you can give either turkey or fish based food it is considered to be cooling to the skin in Chinese food therapy. However don't use the protein source if you know your dog is allergic to it. I would also avoid any GMO grains such as corn, wheat or soy.

For additional supplements I would give Derma-IonX, Canine Probiotics, and Omega 3,6,9. Together they are synergistic for faster results. In addition I also recommend our shampoo, Defendex. It is nontoxic but very effective and yet soothing.
