Hi, is a moderate urine stip safe stage for dog? What makes him pant so bad at times? He is on insulin called Humulin N is this a safe one for him? He has no temp. at all we take short walks 3 times a day, and we have just started this the last 4 days and when will I see a improvement? He is ( 9 ) years old , He is a anotolin shepard. Dear Katherine,

The goal is to be at a trace on the urine strip. Higher than that usually means the blood glucose level is fairly high.

As for as the panting do you think he becomes painful at times? Or if it happens mostly in the evening he could be yin deficient according to TCVM (Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine). A veterinarian trained in acupuncture and Chinese herbals can help with a yin deficiency.

Changes in blood glucose happen slowly. I hope you will see an improvement in energy and a lessening of diabetic symptoms within a few weeks.
