Dear Angela,

You might want to look at some of our products to help the skin. DERMA-IONX which is an oral homeopathic product stimulates the enzyme systems in the body which aids the skin to heal and helps with assimilation of nutritional components in diet and supplements. The supplements I use along with it include probiotics and Omega 3,6,9. Probiotics help restore the gut flora which can help with allergies. The Omega 3,6,9 is very helpful in reducing inflammation in the skin. These supplements together with DERMA-IONX can produce a synergistic response. I would also suggest that you give your dog only filtered water for drinking if your water contains chlorine or fluoride.

For the dietary modifications you might want to try feeding cooling foods according to Chinese food therapy. Fish and turkey are considered to be cooling. Chicken and lamb are warming and would best be avoided when the skin is hot. Of course if your dog has a food sensitivity do not give that food.

Also check with a flea comb to make sure there are no fleas or flea debris ( dark specks in the coat). Even one flea can start a severe allergic reaction. If there is even one you need to get rid of them as soon as possible. With a flea infestation most of them are in the environment and not on the dog at any given moment.

Please feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions or to give us updates.

Best wishes,

Dr. Char
