My pug, Gus, scratches all the time. If you try to pet him he twitches where he has no hair the skin is pink but no sores. I've used dozens of shampoos but only help for a couple of hours. I've been told he's allergic to grass. What could I use on him to help?

Dear Sharon,

You might want to look at some of our products to help the skin. DERMA-IONX which is an oral homeopathic product stimulates the enzyme systems in the body which reduces itchiness and helps with assimilation of nutritional components in diet and supplements. The supplements I use along with it include probiotics and Omega 3,6,9. Both are important for good skin and coat. I would also suggest that you give your dog only filtered water for drinking and bathing if your water contains chlorine or fluoride.

For the dietary modifications you might want to try feeding cooling foods according to Chinese food therapy.

Fish and turkey are considered to be cooling. Chicken and lamb are warming and would best be avoided in the summer month. Of course if your dog has a food sensitivity do not give that food.

The Vetionx shampoo DEFENDEX is soothing to the skin and so you might want to consider it if you need a nontoxic shampoo.

Please feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions.

Best wishes,

Dr. Char www.vetionx.com
