My 13 year old Lasa Apso has what appear to be scabs on her body that are white and scaly and leave flakes attached to her fur. Do you have any idea what this might be? -Andree-

Dear Andree,

There are a few causes that can create a flakey dandruff. To know for sure your veterinarian can look at the flakes under the microscope. You might want to consider a few of our products to help heal the skin. Derma-IonX which is an oral homeopathic product stimulates the enzyme systems in the body which reduces itching and inflammation , promotes healing of the skin and helps with assimilation of nutritional components in diet and supplements. The supplements I use along with it include Canine Probiotics, vitamin C, MSM, and Omega 3,6,9. Together with Derma-IonX it produces a synergistic effect for a faster response. I would also suggest that you give your dog only filtered water for drinking and bathing if your water contains chlorine or fluoride. For the dietary modifications you might want to try a grain free diet for a while.

Defendex shampoo which is nontoxic washes away debris and soothes the skin. This is especially helpful for the type of skin symptoms that you described. Using these products can help improve the skin and coat without adding toxicity to the body.

Please feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions.

Best wishes,

Dr. Char
