Hi Dr. Wilson; My dog, Lemo, has been diagnosed with a skin infection (dermatitis) on his underbelly and groin area. He'll be 4 years old March 2nd. The dermatitis started in late August. We thought it was due to allergies and he's been to the vet's office and given shots, cephalaxen (sp?) on 5 separate occasions to one vet. Last week we took him to another vet who also said he had a skin infection and prescribed cephalaxen for a 4 week period and a medicated shampoo. This is the 2nd week and his skin condition looks the same. I'm also giving him fish oil. Do you think Derma-IonX will work for him?

Dear Evelyn,

DERMA-IONX has help improve many different types of skin conditions. It is an oral homeopathic product that stimulates the enzyme systems in the body which reduces itching and inflammation, promotes healing of the skin and helps with assimilation of nutritional components in diet and supplements. The supplements I use along with it include MSM, vitamin C, PROBIOTICS and OMEGA 3,6,9. Together with DERMA-IONX it produces a synergistic effect. I would also suggest that you give your dog only filtered water for drinking and bathing if your water contains chlorine or fluoride. As for diet, if your dog is not allergic to these protein sources you might try a fish or turkey based grain free food if your dog is quite warm and seeks cool places. These foods are considered to be cooling according to Chinese food therapy. You would want to avoid chicken or lamb which are warming for the skin if it is already too warm. Beef is neutral. Avoid treats that have artificial colorings.

Please feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions or to let us know how you are doing.

Best wishes,

Dr. Char www.vetionx.com
