Health Questions & Answers

Hello Dr. Wilson, Our dog Checkers has severe arthritis and Promaxol was recommended to me by my sister whose dog has improved significantly. I have mostly negative reactions from our vet and from a homeopathic vet in Florida. I need to have a comfort level that Promaxol is safe in conjunction with a mess of Rx meds that include: Rimadyl, Adaquan, Tramadol, Thyrosyn (this one is not relevant to our discussion), Gabapentin DGP, a homeopathic blend for joints. Is Promaxol safe with the current Rx regimen? Is it reasonable to assume that Checkers could be weaned from the Rx and take only Promaxil? Thanks, Lawrence

Dear Lawrence,

You may use Promaxol along with other medications or supplements. It is homeopathic in nature and so it will not negatively interact with other physical substances. Promaxol helps to decrease pain and inflammation and stimulate healing. In addition I find it helpful to follow a holistic approach by giving some nutritional supplements to accompany Promaxol. The supplements I recommend are Canine Probitoic and Omega 3,6,9. Promaxol will help the body to better utilize the nutrition for a synergistic response.

As you begin to see improvement you can discuss with your veterinarian how to reduce the conventional medication. You might also want to check into acupuncture. I would recommend a vet trained in TCVM (Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine) Diet is also important in Chinese medicine and can influence patient comfort.

Please let us know how you do or if you have any other questions.

Best wishes,

Dr. Char
