Homeopathic Remedies For Your Pet

By Dr. Char Wilson, DVM More Blogs by This Author

Dr. Char Wilson talks about homeopathic remedies that you can use on pregnant and young pets.
Host, Gerry Barnaby- Hey, what’s up? Barnaby here—another VETiONX Moment where you get to speak, somewhat directly, to the vet by sending us an email at—there’s a little button that says, “Ask the Vet.” We’ve got a bunch of questions here for you, Dr. Char. You’ve been a holistic veterinarian for how many years?
Health Coach, Dr. Char Wilson, DVM-  Well, since 1987…
Barnaby-  Okay, so you know whereof you speak, sure. Here we go! Homeopathic medicine. “What kind of conditions”—I guess it’s going to be very much conditionally based right here—“can homeopathic medicines and treatments be used on my pregnant pets?”
Dr. Char- It can be. I usually limit the amount of remedies I would use. So, I’d be careful in selecting which ones that I wanted to use for a pregnant animal. But, it’s very helpful and successful to use that. It can help the pregnant animal get through her pregnancy very nicely and easily, and a lot of times prevents any other problems from developing after they deliver.
Barnaby-  Alrighty. Another one that kind of dovetails nicely with that, and that is: “Can homeopathic treatments and medicines be used on very young animals?”
Dr. Char-  Oh, definitely. It can be used on any animal, big or small, young or old, because it’s very gentle and very safe.
Barnaby-  Okay. When you speak of that, necessarily, a lot of people say, “Well, it may be gentle, but there’s got to be some sort of side effect.” What sort of side effects might we expect with homeopathic medicines?
Dr. Char-  Well, generally there aren’t, because it’s kind of like a key and a lock. The body has to have this set of symptoms, so it’s like—if the set of symptoms is like the lock and you put the remedy in, which is like the key, and it’s the right fit, then it helps the body to make a little adjustment. It’s kind of an instructional message, and then the desired outcome happens. If it’s not the right one, generally nothing happens and you don’t have an ill effect.
Barnaby-  Excellent stuff right there! The kind of stuff you’re going to find when you visit, because we’re all about just making sure that your relationship with your pet is a fruitful one. Great answers to some pretty interesting questions right here, and if you have a question, all you need to do is click on the link that connects you directly to Dr. Char.
