I just read a statistic from a USA Today article that says approximately 80% of Americans will experience lower back pain in their lifetime. That's incredibly high - especially seeing as how back pain can be crippling. The cost of dealing with this (both medical costs and time off work) adds up to $50 billion annually. That's...kind of insane.

I've never experienced crippling back pain, although there have definitely been times when I've been highly uncomfortable and in moderate pain. (In fact, I'm squirming uncomfortably as I write this.) I've been around people who can't even get up because they're hurting so badly, so I know the effects it can have.

Have any of you dealt with back pain? Did you find out what was causing it, and how did/do you deal with it?

Yep I've had some lower back issues. I've had it where I could barely stand up or put on a sock. Toughed it out every time :) To help prevent it from happening again I stretch my back every morning and before exercising or playing any kind of sports. The stretching helps immensely. I'm also sure to bend my knees when lifting something heavy and to ask for help when needed. Lastly I don't jump out of bed anymore, instead I sort of roll out of bed so I don't jerk my back which is usually tight when I first get up in the morning.
