Health Questions & Answers

One thing I've heard about chronic pain conditions is that often, doctors really can't tell you what's causing them. Sometimes, there is a clear-cut answer - a condition they can point to as the culprit - but it's incredibly common to have the doctors say they can't really help you. I imagine that must be infuriating, especially if the symptomatic medicines don't help.

Have any of you dealt with a chronic pain condition? If so, were you able to find a clear root cause?

Hi Laura!

I used to have chronic tension headaches for years. My headaches could last literally for weeks on end.

I tried all the traditional treatments (massage therapy, pain medication, muscle relaxants, ostepathy, stretching, physical therapy etc), but got no lasting relief and my physicians wondered why nothing seemed to help as it should. I was under a lot of stress those days, so that must have contributed to the situation.

What brought me lasting relief was Feldenkrais Method.

Hi Satu!

Oh goodness, that sounds terrible. I am a chronic headache sufferer but I've never had one last for weeks!

It's pretty amazing what stress can do to our bodies. We tend to think of its effects being purely mental/emotional, but it can have such an impact on our physical health. My boyfriend has had to go to the hospital a few times during the last year, and it turned out that the root cause of his pain was stress.

I'm so glad you were able to find relief! I've never heard of the Feldenkrais Method - what does it entail?

I haven't dealt with a chronic pain condition, but my husband has. He has chronic pain in his ankles and he knows the cause. In high school, he played a lot of sports and he broke his ankles so many times that he will never recover fully. He learns to tune out the pain and try and focus on other things throughout the day to keep his mind busy.
