Chronic Fatigue can have many causes, including (but not limited to):

•Depression •Lack of sleep •Irregular sleep schedule such as shift work •Sleep apnea •Anemia •Vitamin deficiencies •Viral illness such as mono •Medications •Poor conditioning •Thyroid problems •Poor diet •Other medical causes

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is a diagnosis given once other known causes have been ruled out.

Everyone with chronic fatigue should:

1.Exercise for 30 minutes every day.

2.Eat a well balanced diet (see my other posts on diet and nutrition) eliminating junk food and simple sugars from the diet.

3.Get an adequate amount of sleep. That is at least 8 hours a day for adults (see my post regarding the amount of sleep children need).

4.Go to sleep and wake up at the same time every day (even on weekends).

5.Make sure you are completely free from caffeine and smoking, although taking these products might make you feel like you have more energy initially, they typically can cause more problems of fatigue in the long run.

6.See a qualified medical professional to help rule out other causes. (Like a canary in a coal mine, Chronic Fatigue can be a sentinel for another more serious medical problem. )

If you try natural, over the counter, or prescription products for your chronic fatigue, I would avoid energy drinks and taking anything with stimulants. Sugar and stimulants might give you a quick boost, but they will causes a crash later.
