Pomegranates and Erectile Dysfunction: Study Shows Pomegranates May Cure Impotence

Every year millions of men suffer the embarrassment and frustration of erectile dysfunction. It's estimated that close to 18 million men in the United States alone are effected by the condition. A study done by Johns Hopkins' Bloomberg School of Public Health in February of 2007 shows that approximately one in five men experience some instance of erectile dysfunction throughout their life. There are many prescription medications on the market that are supposed to aid with the condition, but many experts are finding that prescription medication may not be the best option or even necessary to correct erectile dysfunction. Studies show that lifestyle changes and natural ingredients like pomegranates may be actually be the answer.

What Are Pomegranates?

The pomegranates is a fruit that originated in the Middle East and the Mediterranean regions in ancient times. Over time, it was introduced and cultivated throughout the world by travelers and settlers. The pomegranate tree generally prefers a warmer and drier climate like those found in California and Arizona, however, they have been known to grow as far north as Utah and Washington D.C. in the United States. Pomegranates are usually consumed in a juice form.

Pomegranates and Erectile Dysfunction

In addition to being used as an anti-viral treatment and a treatment for cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, gastro intestinal problems, sore throats, and ulcers, pomegranates have been proven to help correct erectile dysfunction.

A study published in the International Journal of Impotence Research found that drinking about 8 ounces of 100 percent pomegranate juice each day helps with erectile dysfunction and impotence. The study tested 61 men for a few weeks that had experienced mild to moderate erectile dysfunction. Half of the participants were given the pomegranate juice while the other half were given a placebo. At the end of the study it was found that forty-seven percent of the participants reported that their erections improved with the use of pomegranate juice. These results confirmed that pomegranate juice had positive effects on erectile dysfunction and prompted additional studies with more patients and longer treatment periods.

Drinking pomegranate juice is just one way men can treat erectile dysfunction naturally. Barrenwart, maca, velvet bean, tongkat ali, and panex ginseng have also been proven to improve erectile dysfunction.
