The Beginner's Guide to Open Heart Meditation
These days, it's hardly a secret - many, many sources suggest thatmeditation is beneficial to our lives, health, and well being. Meditation is a practice that allows you to turn within, distancing you from the stress in your mind, body and life, rather than constantly being enveloped and controlled by outside factors. It can help you focus on creating the life you want, instead of simply reacting to the events in your life after they happen.
The goal of open heart meditation is to accept of thing as they are, be open with others, and to recognize the hidden blessings of life. In a short amount of time each morning, open heart meditation can be practiced to center yourself, open your awareness in a positive way, and create an intention for the day.
A Beginner's Guide to Open Heart Meditation
- Position and Location: Start by sitting in a quiet safe place and focus on your breathing. You should be comfortable, but not comfortable enough that you may fall asleep.
- Focus on Breathing: Relax and allow the breath to flow naturally, in and out. Begin by focusing your breathing toward the area of the heart. This brings your mental focus as well as your breathing focus into the heart area behind your breast bone.
- Take 10: Take ten minutes to sit and focus your heart breathing while you allow yourself to experience the feelings that arise when you allow your heart to be open and activated by your breath.
- Emotional Flow: You may experience a variety of feelings and emotions during the breathing meditation. Because you are breathing, the meditation is active and the consciousness of your feelings may wash over you in waves. You may feel excited, or relaxed. You may start to feel sad, and that is okay too. Allow yourself to feel the emotions and then let your breath cleanse your heart of the feelings and allow them to wash away. When you release those feelings your heart will be left feeling open, peaceful and energized.
