The MANLY guide to lotions and STUFF

By Dayton from SLN More Blogs by This Author

WE are men! We cut trees down and shoot guns! No whiskey is too strong, and no car problem is too hard to fix! We go through the day with our face to the wind, pretending that when we stub our toe it doesn't even hurt!

We get it, you're tough and awesome and stuff. A cauldron of bubbling testosterone, if you will. Most men aren't super in tune with their personal care products. Each morning consists of a combination shampoo+conditioner, some soap, toothpaste, and shaving cream. But lotion is good, use it! It's super helpful to keep your face moisturized and not sunburnt. It can make your hands feel way better! Dry hands are no fun. So here are some straight up guy-usable lotions and other helpful guy products to make your body better!

The Criteria:

-It doesn't smell like a woman or basket of fruit

-It moisturizes without being all greasy and gross and doesn't leave crap everywhere

-It lasts a long time because reapplying is a pain

Stuff for your FACE

Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer

Why it's awesome: SPF 30, non-scented, helps diffuse light across skin and evens out skin tone. One application will last you all day, and is hypoallergenic. It's a little pricey for the bottle size but leaves your skin feeling AMAZING!

Cost: $15

Nivea for Men Revitalizing Lotion

Why it's awesome: It's made for MEN! Look at the package, it even says so! Nivea has a long history of making mens' care products, so they should know what's up right? It has a SPF 15 and is designed to restore "tired" skin by improving elasticity and youthful vigor.

Cost: $8

Stuff for your HANDS

The Body Shop Hemp Hand Protector

Why it's awesome: Super hardcore hand lotion that takes no prisoners. They claim that it moisturizers for up to 48 hours regardless of what conditions your hands go through. Really good for people in the food industry that wash their hands a lot. It does have a smell to it, but it's more of an industrial farm smell than anything.

Cost: $17

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion

Why it's awesome: It's super scentless! It doesn't stay moisturize-ey just like the Hemp Hand Protector, and you shouldn't need to apply it more than once or twice a day. It doesn't leave your hands greasy (but you will need to work it in a little better), and you get more bang for your buck because they come in relatively large pump-style bottles, available at Walmart.

Cost: $8

Stuff for the SHOWER

Dove Men+Care Bodywash

Why it's awesome: Dove makes amazing bodywash. Their mens' line is no exception. It will leave your skin clean and refreshed, not dry. The scents available are very light and non-noticeable, so it won't mess with your cologne like some other bodywashes can. The "Sensitive Skin" version uses no dyes or scents, but it smells weird. You've been warned.

Cost: $5

American Crew Tea Tree Balancing Shampoo

Why it's awesome: CREW is a guy's best friend for hair care. It's rather expensive, but is definitely one of the best options in the name of shampoo. It uses citrus extract to cleanse away dirt but doesn't strip your hair of essential oils or leave your scalp feeling dry. Also, it has peppermint and spearmint to "stimulate the scalp" and scent it. There's a conditioner version too!

Cost: $15

  • Hemp hand lotion is AWESOME! My boyfriend uses it all the time, and I've really found nothing else that works better.

  • Writing at its finest:"Super hardcore hand lotion that takes no prisoners."

    Thank you.

  • Made me laugh, it's true men don't really want fruity things. But sometimes I am guilty of wanting to smell like a man -- they have such good scents that last a long time. I am not ashamed.
