is there a specific detailed test that indicated if the thyroid is functioning properly?? i have gone to my MD and had a blood test and i was in the normal range ( on the low end if i remember correctly).. i have slight fatigue, hair loss, slight weight gain...i have seen a naturopath and been prescribed DHEA and testosterone cream ( have been on that for at least 3 months...i have not noticed a difference in energy, or the hair loss....any suggestions?

There are quite a few tests available in what is sometimes referred to as a Thyroid Panel. T4, available T4, TSH, and available T3 are the tests I can think of off the top of my head. Most of the time, a doctor will run a T4 or a TSH and not look at the other two numbers. If your numbers were to the low side of normal, I'm sure you can convince them to order a complete thyroid panel for better diagnostics.
