My 10yr old Cocker has bad gums. Her Vet wants to clean her teeth, but the cost is $350 and up. I was wondering is I could put some drops of Hydrogen Peroxide on a piece of gauge and rube her gums to try and clean them and any infection there might be.

Hi Sharon~

Here is what our vet, Dr. Char shared: I would not do that because it is not food grade and is too strong and damaging to mucosal membranes. Getting enzymatic toothpaste would be an option. For some pets adding homeopathic fragaria vesca 30C to the water bowl helps dissolve certain kinds of tartar.

If a dental cleaning is still needed after doing the above, then she might want to call some other veterinary clinics. She might find a much cheaper price. It is important to to ask what the total price will be since some clinics itemize everything which can double the initial quoted price.

Thank you.
