10 Steps To Stay Focused At Work: Step 8 - Set Weekly Goals


Determining your weekly goals can help you prioritize your tasks and determine the order in which you do them. Don't let this stress you out however; use this list to organize each day and what needs to be accomplished

Weekly Task Lists

Just as a daily task list will organize and prioritize your day, your weekly list will prioritize the week, and determine the placement of projects on your daily list. Consider the days of the week, the times of day you work best, and the days you are most inclined to want to take it easy. Some people prefer a light day on Fridays, in order to start their weekend early, while others prefer to ease back into the workweek slowly on Monday. Whatever it may be, choose the best day for each major task.

Break It Down Again

By breaking large tasks into smaller ones, you can turn an intimidating job into a simple one. Consider the task you need to accomplish. Some suggest looking at the problem backwards. What is the final step of the project? What do you need to get there? Then examine the step needed prior to the last step. Continue this way until you have arrived at the beginning of the task. Now that it's broken down into simple steps, set a deadline for the completion of each step. By following a daily and weekly goal list, accomplishing large tasks is a breeze.

Reward Yourself

It's so important to feel a sense of pride and accomplishment in what you do. While you can create daily reward incentives for yourself while you're at work, reaching a weekly goal deserves something more special. Consider a nice dinner out every Friday when you've met all your weekly goals. Or join your co-workers for an after-work get together. Maybe there's a movie you've been wanting to see, or a project at home you've been excited to do. Whatever the reward, choose something that'll make you feel special. You deserve it.

Stay Positive and Enjoy Yourself

Do whatever you need to encourage yourself. Make sure your job motivates and challenges you to do your best. The laziest mind is a bored mind. Do your best to conquer boredom. Setting weekly goals or challenges may be enough. Be interested in what you're doing, and if you're not, consider finding it somewhere else.
