This is week two of the lettuce garden experiment.
The plants are really starting to look good this week! Last Friday, I just had sprouts and was excited enough, but Monday when I came in I found that tons of little plants had come up! They all currently have two little leaves, but according to Seth and Jennie, soon the true leaves should start forming.
Some tips and tricks I've learned so far for the garden are:
- Keep the soil just moist - use your finger to check and don't overwater! (I tend to overwater at times...)
- For weekends, even if the soil is a bit moist, give a little spritz of water before leaving on Friday and use some sort of loose fitting lid or cover to keep in moisture if you're concerned about the plants drying out. I'm using a shoe-box sized container with a lid, so I put the lid half-on half-off and it works.
- For straighter plants, turn around the box every day or so as the plants tend to grow toward a light source and will lean one way until the light source direction is changed.
I've also started a small container garden at home with lettuce, parsley, and jalapeno seeds, and hopefully I will have good news on those to report next week!
