Week 1

By
From the Garden Experiment Blog Series

I decided to try starting a small garden at work, and I figured I'd blog about it each week.

I want to grow some of my own foods in my garden so that I can eat fresher, healthier herbs, fruits, and vegetables. I've not always eaten healthy foods, but now that I'm more health-conscious, I figured this would be a great project to try. Plus my coworkers all have gardens of their own at home and can lend lots of useful advice.

My first part of the garden experiment was recommended by my coworker Jennie and is (hopefully) a fairly-difficult-to-ruin plant: lettuce. I have a shoebox-sized plastic container that I've filled with some soil from plant-starter pellets and planted a mixed variety of lettuce seeds. The package said they can take 7-10 days to germinate, but another coworker, Erin, said hat her recent lettuce plants sprouted within 3 days.

Here's hoping to an amazing garden!
