How To Remove Mercury from Your Body

Mercury is a metal that occurs naturally in the earth and also as an introduced contaminant in the atmosphere. Active volcanoes account for approximately half of mercury's release, while humans generate the other half. Mercury emissions within the atmosphere are attributed to human landmarks like power plants that burn coal, gold mines and waste disposal facilities.
How Mercury Enters the Body
People are exposed to mercury from ocean fish and dental amalgam fillings. Older and large-bodied fish are likely to acquire mercury contamination from seas, where the element naturally exists. When people eat such fish, they also ingest the present mercury. The American Heart Association names shark, swordfish, king mackerel and tilefish as possessing high levels of mercury. Similarly, amalgam fillings used to treat cavities in teeth were previously composed of mercury. The element can then seep into other tissues. Experts estimate that the average person has eight amalgam fillings, each of which may release 15 micrograms of mercury per day. This occurs through natural evaporation and mechanical wear.
Detecting Mercury Toxicity
The United States Geological Survey indicates that the most dangerous form of mercury is methylmercury. This is the strain found in seafood and is also present along coastal wetlands of the Gulf of Mexico, Atlantic Ocean and San Francisco Bay. This variant attacks the immune system and damages the nervous system. Methylmercury is also absorbed in the body more readily and expelled more slowly than any other form of mercury. Mercury levels present in the body can be detected with two different methods. Hair follicles and urine both can be tested by medical professionals. Dentists can also detect mercury with a machine that measures gas vapors in a patient's mouth.
Removing Mercury from the Body
The human body is designed to remove toxins, but mercury is difficult to excrete. The thyroids extract and pass it to the liver, which in turn sends it to the kidneys. This cycle can continue for years, thus allowing mercury to accumulate in the system. One of the easiest ways to remove mercury from the body is to replace old amalgam fillings. Mercury is no longer a component of said amalgams, so current fillings are much safer. Seafood should also be eaten only in moderation, including albacore tuna, shrimp and scallops. According to health officials, some minerals can further aid the bodys natural removal of mercury. Such nutrients enable organs to work with effect and efficacy, and they are as follows:
Poultry, nuts, red meats, vegetables and eggs are viable sources of the above-mentioned nutrients. Multi-vitamins are also beneficial for ensuring persons receive the adequate amount of daily vitamins and minerals. Garlic also is known to help rid the body of mercury. It binds to mercury and extracts it from soft tissues like the colon. Garlic supplement tablets are beneficial, as is the liquid form of garlic. Both can be purchased from health stores. Other considerations with regard to ridding the body of mercury are as follows:
- Vitamins B, C and E are known to aid the process of detoxifying the body of mercury, although they do not specifically perform this task.
- Improving the immune system and maintaining normal levels of noradrenaline both are keys to removing mercury from the body. Noradrenaline is released naturally by nerve cells and stimulates the body's reaction to stress. Keeping this hormone level neutral helps organs perform optimally.
It may take several months to fully eliminate high contents of mercury. But with patience and perseverance, you should be able to significantly reduce the levels of this toxic element from your body.
