Health Questions & Answers

My dog is a healthy pit bull, 65 pounds, who joined me from the pound in January. He seems to have constant skin problems - rashes, dry skin, scratching and itching all the time. I have taken him to 3 separate vets and they prescribed pills - Rimadyl, Prednisone, Amitriptyline, Ketoconazole, Cephalexin, Diphenhydramine - but these have done nothing for him. I did see his skin problems clear up when I switched him over to a grain-free diet. I now feed him Taste-of-the-Wild which he loves and has no grains. The reason I am writing you today is that my dog now has a new problem. It has just showed up recently. There are areas of his skin under his coat that have become dry and scabby. For some reason, these areas seem to show up in straight lines that are 2-3 inches in length. I am worried because these are all new and they all showed up at the same time. They occur at the same time that fleas are tormenting my dog. I have ordered Comfortis and will soon begin my dog on this anti-flea medicine. Also, I have special flea bath stuff that kills the fleas. I plan to treat my house to get rid of fleas because they get back on my dog shortly after the baths. Do you think Derma-Ionx will help my dog? Or do you have any other suggestions? Thanks. -Mickey-

Dear Mickey,

Derma-IonX which is an oral homeopathic product stimulates the enzyme systems in the body which reduces itching and inflammation , promotes healing of the skin and helps with assimilation of nutritional components in diet and supplements. The supplements I use along with it include digestive enzymes, probiotics, vitamin C, MSM, and fish oil. Together with Derma-IonX it produces a synergistic effect for a faster response. It can also be used topically if there are troublesome spots on the skin. I would also suggest that you give your dog only filtered water for drinking and bathing if your water contains chlorine or fluoride.

Derma-IonX should help give your dog relief while you work on getting rid of the fleas.

Please feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions.

Best wishes,

Dr. Char
