Health Questions & Answers

My mini dachshund is 3 years old and she has itcy skin.  I've tried maaawash shampo, now aloween oatmeal shampoo, conditioner, and confortis flea tablet once a month.  But she chews her front feet and her skin is very dry, like dandruff on her back, her belly is hot, now the vet (which by the way is new to us we've just moved here) told me to give her phenergan 10mg twice a day.  This makes her sleepy, but has not stopped the problem during her waking hours, people have told me epsom salts, cider vinegar or baking soda in cold water for a bath can you suggest anything for her skin.  It is not broken or bleeding or has sores.  -Lyn-

Dear Lyn,

It sounds like your little dog has allergies. There are a few things that I would suggest to you. Derma-IonX which is an oral homeopathic product stimulates the enzyme systems in the body which helps reduce itching and inflammation, promotes healing of the skin, and helps with assimilation of nutritional components in diet and supplements. The supplements I use along with it include Canine Probiotics, vitamin C, MSM, and Omega 3,6,9. Together with Derma-IonX it produces a synergistic effect for a faster response. Derma-IonX can also be used topically if there are troublesome spots on the skin. I would also suggest that you give your dog only filtered water for drinking and bathing if your water contains chlorine or fluoride. For the dietary modifications you might want to try a grain free diet for a while. Since your dog's skin is hot I would try either fish or turkey as the protein source because they are considered to be more cooling than chicken or lamb which are warming.

Defendex shampoo which was designed to fight against fleas and mites also washes away debris and soothes the skin. Using both products is a simple and effective way of helping resolve a difficult condition.

Please feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions.

Best wishes,
