My 10 y.o. Chihuahua has had diabetes 4 the past 1 1/2 - 2yrs. She's on insulin, had numerous miner problems, like some skin problems. Everything has been monitored & controlled. We've done numerous curves, fructosime, random glucose test. All this & more has been closely documented days, times, numbers from numerous tests, so random glucose test can be exactly compared 2 said tests. Lately she's been losing weight about 1/2lb every 2-3 weeks, her doctor has increased her food gradually, she still has a good glucose level. She is in season & doesn't seem 2 feel well. She seems that maybe her glucose level maybe low? After her feeding & insulin, within a 2 1/2 hr. after feeding. Also on occasion she is licking at her urine? I am going 2 take her 2 vet 1st thing in a.m. I'm curious 2 know what your thoughts are? I'm not sure if I've given u enough info, knowing that so much depends on gathered info? Basically I'm most curious as 2 why she seems 2 having low glucose signs after regular food & insulin? Does her being in season have any bearing on glucose levels? -Becky-

Dear Becky,

Hormones and infections can cause blood glucose levels to fluctuate.

Please let us know what you find out from your veterinarian visit.
