My little Shitzu-Pug has Dermodectic Mange around her eye lids. She has had a positive test from her vet. They gave her a medicine called Invermectin and she had a TERRIBLE reaction to it.  So today the vet wrote us another prescription for Milbermycin or Interceptor. I see that your Defendex product could possibly be a substitution if we wanted to go with a natural medicine but she does have mites all around the eye lids. Would the shampoo probably eliminate all the mites or do you not recommend getting it in or near her eyes? -Gena-

Dear Gena,

Since it is so close to the eyes using Interceptor is a good choice. However, Demodectic mange is an opportunistic infection because the immune system is weak, so you need to address that or it may be a very long battle. I would use Derma-IonX orally to help heal and soothe the skin as well as rebuilding the immune system. Giving digestive enzymes, probiotics, MSM, vitamin C, and fish oil will all help in that goal. Derma-IonX also helps the body to better utilize the supplements for faster results. I would also suggest that you give water that is free of chlorine or fluoride for drinking or bathing. Feeding a grain-free diet for a while could be beneficial as well.

Please let us know how you progress or if you have any other questions.

Best wishes,

Dr. Char
