My dog won't let the groomer clean or cut him.  Is there something I can give him to calm him down?

Dear Nicole,

You could try Anxietrex for your dog. It helps pets deal with various causes of anxiety. I would do this daily for a few weeks. I would also give Chill Out Chews before a grooming session. This will not be like a tranquilizer. It only takes the edge off; but it might be enough to let the groomer do small amounts at a time. The goal is to recondition him into thinking grooming is not so bad. Otherwise you might need to have your veterinarian handle the situation.

Diet can also affect behavior. What do you feed him? Artificial preservatives and colors are good to avoid. I like a non GMO diet. I would give the purer diet a month to start working. Also treats can be a source of stimulation. Be sure to look at the label.

Best regards,

Dr. Char
