Health Questions & Answers

My dog has been using Diabetes Releif Formula and has responded very well. She has Cushings now and I am wondering if this formula is just as good for Cushings or should I get the anxiety medicine instead. Also she just got a severe UTI and I am wondering if the decrease in fluid intake can contribute to this?  She has high protein content in the urine. I like your product, and I just want to make sure I am using them effectivley for my dog.  She is a 9 y/o Standard Poodle who has gained 20 lbs in less than a year and has recurrent UTI's.  Before the diabetes formula she was vomiting and intermittent bouts of diarrhea.

Dear Marcia,

For Cushings I have used Dia-IonX and Phosphatidyl serine. In addition it is helpful to give Canine Probiotics with each meal, MSM, vitamin C, and Omega 3,6,9. The oligotherapeutic mineral base found in the IONX products helps the body to better utilize the other nutritional substances given for a synergistic response and faster healing. Also be sure to give sufficient fresh water that is free of chlorine and fluoride. If you can gradually phase into a grain free diet that can be helpful too. The other thing that is sometimes beneficial is to have a certified veterinary chiropractor check for spinal alignment and make any corrections as necessary. It is not uncommon for diabetics to get recurrent UTIs because the sugar in the urine makes it easy for bacteria to grow. You might try giving cranberry capsules to help flush the bacteria from the bladder. The probiotics will be important to use after giving antibiotics to re-establish the gut flora.

Please let us know how you progress or if you have any other questions.

Best wishes,

Dr. Char
