Health Questions & Answers

We adopted a labrador-retriever mix, in August of 2011.  She was heartworm positive, and was going to be put down.  We decided to give her a chance.  Since after her miticide injections, she has had very bad skin.  I mean, awful!!!  Shes been getting shots, but we don't want to keep doing that. They say the heartworm treatment weakens the immune system.  Would love some suggestions, we read about Neem Oil, does that help?  Thanks -Tracy-

Dear Tracy,

You might want to look at two of our products, Derma-IonX and Defendex shampoo to help heal the skin. Derma-IonX which is an oral homeopathic product stimulates the enzyme systems in the body which reduces itching and inflammation , promotes healing of the skin, can aid the immune system, and helps with assimilation of nutritional components in diet and supplements. The supplements I use along with it include Canine probiotics, vitamin C, MSM, and Omega 3,6,9. Together with Derma-IonX it produces a synergistic effect for a faster response. I would also suggest that you give your dog only filtered water for drinking and bathing if your water contains chlorine or fluoride. For the dietary modifications you might want to try a grain free diet for a while.

Defendex shampoo which is nontoxic also washes away debris and soothes the skin. It does contain Neem oil. Using both products is a simple and effective way of helping resolve a difficult condition.

Please feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions.

Best wishes,

Dr. Char
