Yes I have a 1 year old dearhead Chihuahua and she is very skiddish all the time she whines and cries if I am not in the same room as her, and if I go anywhere when I come back she is mad and bites me and if I walk away she will start biting my pant legs. she acts crazy sometimes. She also bites my guests. do you think that Anxietrex will help her? I have tried rescue remedy and calming pills and nothing works not even a little bit. I need help now or I am not going to be able to keep her, she makes things very unpleasant. I do love her but can't go on like this. Please help me get some answers -Katherine-

Dear Katherine,

I would suggest you try our homeopathic Anxietrex and some Chill Out Chews to reduce the anxiety. Anxietre can be added to the water daily for several weeks if necessary, and Chill Out Chews 15 minutes before you plan on leaving. You could also leave some classical or relaxing music playing when you are gone.

Do you put her in a crate? It should be big enough for her to stand up and turn around. Sometimes dogs feel safer in their own little cave. Putting a blanket over half the crate can make it seem more secure. Make sure she can't chew the blanket. It would also be helpful to provide a Kong toy with peanut butter or treats inside to provide distraction.

I would also suggest that you feed a high quality grain free diet. You would want to avoid a diet with artificial colors and preservatives. A lower quality diet can make a dog more hyperactive.

Also provide adequate daily exercise. Excess energy makes it harder for a dog to settle down. I think it would be advisable to have a dog trainer work with you and your dog. Your dog is trying to be alpha. People are supposed to be. The trainer might be able to help you establish the right order. If you need something more besides this you could try acupuncture. It also can affect behavior.

Please let us know how you do.

Best regards,

Dr. Char
