Is it safe to give my 5 yr. old 15# dachshund 1/2 a 81 mg. aspirin for a sore muscle or sprain in his shoulder or leg due to a jump? Don't think anything is broken, but he doesn't want to walk on it. -Joyce-

Dear Joyce,

I usually don't recommend giving human medications to small dogs. If your facts are correct it is in the acceptable range if given only 12 hours apart. If there are other health issues you may not want to do so. Your veterinarian who is familiar with your dog is in the best position to tell you to go ahead. Our homeopathic product, Promaxol, would be a good product to have in the house for such situations because it helps to decrease pain, inflammation, as well as stimulate healing. Giving homeopathics early on can be amazing. It often can stop the progression of symptoms. Hope your little one feels better fast. It would be a good idea to see your veterinarian just to make sure. Having a dachshund you might want to find a veterinary chiropractor. I have found chiropractic to be very helpful in preventing a bigger problems such as disc disease that could occur later on.

Best regards,
