Hip Dysplasia treatment options/products

My 70lb., approximately 1 year old Chesapeake Retriever was recently diagnosed with "significant" hip dysplasia. They suggested I do surgery that carves out the joint so the femur head gets better coverage (this description is in my words) I cannot afford this expensive surgery, its major and it doesn't sound like a definite cure. My dog has not shown alot of signs that I have detected although she does have a limp but has some sore and redness on her pad and in between toes that we are attributing the limp to at this time, the x-rays show early signs of degenerative disease, right muscle wasting. Help. What if any great products or treatments could I start her on to slow the process down to extend her quality of life, reduce pain etc for now and in the future. Thank you for any help you could give me.  -Janelle-

Arthro-IonX or Promaxol, which should I use for my dog?

I have been using your products for some time now with good results overall. I have two Alaskan Malamutes (10yo). I'm having issues with my 120 pound male. I have been giving him Promaxol because my female needed it after hurting her knee. Yet, it doesn't seem to be as effective as the Arthro was (which I gave him prior to this). He is exibiting symptoms of lameness where he occaisionally walks on the tops of his feet. He is slow to rise after laying down for any length of time and isn't able to run. Should I go back to the Arthro? -David-

My Pomeranian (dog) has a Skin Problem

My Pomeranian, Jesse, had the thickest most beautiful coat, which matted very easily in the undercoat. A groomer shaved him approximately 2 years ago, and the coat on his back, sides, tail, and backside refused to grow back. The skin did turn blackish in color and often has the occasional pimple and dry crusty sort of sore. Our vet tested his thyroid which was low and he has been on soloxine ever since. So, I am not sure if this skin/hair problem was caused by the aggressive shave, the thyroid problem, or the "black skin" problem I have read about on the Internet?? Jesse's thyroid problem appears to be stable with an ongoing maintenance dose of soloxine, but he only has a very fine covering of hair in places on the affected skin. I desperately want to try him on any kind of supplement that will help his hair regrowth, and hopefully result in the return of at least some of his coat, while at the same time, conditioning his skin. I was thinking that a combination of your "Derma-ionx" and "Omega 3/6/9" may be of benefit in this regard, but would appreciate any feedback and advice from you. Thank you -Lynette-

How do I administer the medicine for my dog?

I know  you can add it to the water but not as recommended as in the dogs food, my problem is that my dog is pretty finicky and sometimes she won't eat her food and sometimes she doesn't eat for a whole day. Also I have another dog in the house that will sometimes go back and eat the other dogs food if I don't remember to put it up on the counter top. So what do you recommend? Many thanks Laurie

Dog has Hip Dysplasia

Our son's male lab (91/2 yrs.old) was born with hip dysplasia and had surgery at approx. 6mths old. What, in your opinion, is the best pain medication that would't compromise his liver? They tried laser treatments with no positive results. Deramaxx was tried but liver enzymes went up & now another med would have to be added to protect the liver. The cost is $300/month which is rather exhorbitant. -Nicky-

Dog has Diabetes

I asked the question in search box by mistake. I hope you can see it. My dog has diabetes, just bought Dia-IonX, praying it will help. She is almost 8 and is a Jack Russell. She was diagnosed in Oct, 2012. She is 26 lbs, and is on 13 units, twice a day.  BG around 415 still. I feed her ground beef or chicken mixed with brown rice or pasta and carrots. I add that to Hill's ver prescribed W/D hard food. She drinks huge amounts of water, and urinated inside 2-3 times a day. She has started cataracts. Has dry mouth. She gets a few natural treats a day, and once in awhile a rawhide granola "Busy Bone", she loves them so much. I am praying your product will help her live a long happy life. Any advise on what I could do better for my baby Guinness Stout. Thank you so much, Jeanne.

Dog is Diabetic, Need Help with Diet

My dog has been diagnosed with diabetes. We are giving her 12 units of insulin 2 times a day. We have started adding 1/2 can of pedigree dog food (is this a good brand to be using?) mixed with her dry food twice a day. Her weight seems stable. her energy level is good. She is drinking more water than usual and of course urinating more frequently than usual. What is your objective opinion about using Dia-IonX. Your input will be appreciated. Sincerely, Mike

Older Dog is Experiencing Incontinence

Is there help for my 13 yr old lab/shepherd mix who has incontinence? I change his diaper several times daily & give him INCONTINENCE by Only Natural Pet (which isn't working). The Arthro-IonX is helping his failing back legs. I want to make sure his senior time is comfortable & pain free. He still rings the bell to go out & always urinates outside but he leaks constantly & I feel it distresses him. I always pet him & reassure him that it is OK and not to worry. I massage his back legs and use a heated massager on his back legs. Please let me know what else I can do to make him happy. Thank You! -Gloria-

Dog with Skin Disorder

Our 1 year old Siberian Husky has the dark spots, redness, loss of fur (all in the crease areas like between his legs and under his arms. We've been using Neosporin on it and it clears up, then comes out in another area. He's been wearing the cone collar so that he can't bite. Does this seem to be allergy related - maybe the food? Also, this product (Derma-IonX) why should someone need to order months supply at a time. Does this not cure the condition or does it only relieve the symptoms? Thank you.  -Clare-

German Shepherd having issues with back legs

Hi Dr. Wilson: My sweet boy Duke is 12 yrs old and has for the past 2 yrs shows signs of dragging his back legs. Its not to bad but noticeable. He also is very, very slow in getting up, but once up is ok. He still has some spunk to him as he tries to keep up with his buddy who is a little active 6 yr old. My concern is that I know he is having some inflammation, pain, and swelling at the end of a day. I just DON'T WANT HIM TO SUFFER. He does some slight moaning at times. I have him on a joint supplement with MSM. I just read about the Arthro-IonX and it sounds good as well. Could I give him both of these products and would it help in all the areas of pain, swelling, and inflammation that is going on in his hips and legs??? I'll do anything for him. I just DON'T WANT HIM TO BE IN PAIN. Thank you so much for your time. Sincerely, Tanya

How much do I feed a Yorkie

We found a male yorkie tied up at an emtpy house, and since we do not have any type of city dog care in our town, my 7 yr old grandson and I took him to our house.  We gave him a bath, bought him everything he needed to help him feel at home. My problem is I don't know how much to feed him. I bought can food because he looks like he's an older dog and he couldn't eat dry dog food. I need some help to make sure he gets all that he needs but that I'm not over feeding him.  -Lenda-
