Mastiff Adopts Orphaned Baby Chimp

By Bri Luginbill More Blogs by This Author

We can’t stop finding adorable stories of dogs adopting other animals as their own! Awhile back we featured a Corgi and baby ducks, last week we ooo-ed and awww-ed at a dog nursing baby kittens.

These heart melting moments continue as photos of this Mastiff/Labrador mix and baby chimpanzee have been shared on reddit.

This strange interspecies relationship has lot of people talking! The user who posted the photos on reddit said the baby chimp came from a zoo, but was brought home by a keeper when her mother passed away. Luckily, the dog just had a litter of puppies, so she was mom mode when she decided to take on the little chimp.

And by the looks of it, she’s doing a fantastic job!

Some sentimental reactions from users viewing these photos on reddit:

“It's beautiful to see how two different animals can show so much love and care for each other. I can't help but get teary eyed.” LupoAS

“This caused an overload of aww” lurkinginparadise

“I think anyone would benefit from being raised in a pile of puppies” blueboxbandit

Others were a bit concerned as to how this person was able to take a chimpanzee into their home.

“I'm sorry, but how does a zoo employee just take home a baby chimp?” monkeyleavings

“There's no way a legit american zoo would have allowed an employee to take home a baby chimpanzee. They would have cares for it around the clock at the zoo and try to encourage the other females chimpa to care for it. This chimp will also have extreme difficulty developing and acclimating to chimp life when it returns.purkasize

One user questioned the safety of having a chimp in the home:

“Don't they turn vicious when they get older? I always have to rain on parades, don't I.” sirtophat
