Dog Fighting Ring Busted Pit Bulls Rescued!
Hello and welcome to The Kibble. Here to bring you the most recent in dog news, research and more!
Today in the news, justice has been served – a dog fighting ring has been busted and shut down!
The “ring” was found on a 5 acre coffee plantation. When these two groups saw the “ring” in person, it was a sad sight. Over 300 pit bulls were scattered throughout the field. Each one was chained to their own metal barrel, which they used as a kennel. However, these “kennels” had holes in them and were made from metal fuel drums. So, who knows what kind of leftover chemicals these dogs were sitting in and breathing in.
Many of the dogs were badly injured. They had ripped ears and tongues, and some couldn’t even stand up.
Luckily, rescue workers tended to these animals immediately and started giving them medical care as well as some much needed TLC.
The eight men who were arrested are being accused of animal cruelty and illegal gambling. If they are convicted, they face up to 12 years in prison. This kind of justice would be nice and Paws program director, Anna Cabrera hopes these men get what they deserve. "This appears to be a large operation and these South Koreans need to be punished," she said.
Unfortunately, many of these criminals will not be convicted. And, some will be out of jail within 2 months and doing the very crime again. Cabrera believes harsher laws and methods need to be taken to truly put an end to dog fighting.
Do you have any recommendations? How can we make it harder for dog fighting rings to occur in the Phillipines?
