This week: A dog mothers 4 newborn kittens!

Elbert Bristow has had dogs all his life, but this is definitely a first time dog owning experience. It all started when his dog Molly had given birth to a litter of puppiesElbert Bristow dog mothers 4 kittens and a couple days later, his cat gave birth to a litter of kittens. Each kitten was a different color - one was gray, one was white, one was white and orange and there was even a kitten with Siamese-like markings. Unfortunately, the mother cat was killed by accident when Bristow was coming back for a fishing trip, pulled in the driveway, didn’t see her, and ran her over. “We hated to lose her,” Bristow said. “Hopefully one of these kittens will be like her because she was real sweet.”

Luckily though, the four little kittens took instantly to Molly – imprinting her as their new mother! They followed her around wherever she went and Molly let them. She wasn’t annoyed by their presence at all in fact, whenever the kitties were ready to eat, Molly would let them!

“Normally they stay with her five or 10 minutes. She lays down and lets them eat,” Bristow said. “It is unusual, very unusual. Really they’re natural enemies. Most dogs can’t stand cats.”

Molly was not among that norm though. She loved those kittens just as much as her own puppies. To her, it didn’t matter if there were dogs or cats, they were babies and they needed a mother.
